Rebuilding a Culture of Marriage and Strengthening Family Life

Rebuilding a Culture of Marriage and Strengthening Family Life

To accomplish the task of rebuilding the culture of marriage and family for the next generation, we must teach the moral and social norms that presume that self-giving love is the vital and indispensable connection between sexuality and marriage. Teaching marriage as the standard and norm for sexual activity is to affirm marriage as the core institution of a successful society and the only intuition that sustains strong families, communities and cultures.

Schools have a responsibility to teach the principles of character education in sexuality education– which holds that right and wrong do exist. Especially at the middle and high school levels, character education alone is irrelevant to young people’s deepest needs if it doesn’t help them apply moral standards to sex.

The Character-based Abstinence Until Marriage model should provide:

  • Reasons and evidence for the mind
  • An appeal to the emotions and desires of the heart.
  • Confidence to strengthen the will amidst pressures and adversity
  • An understanding of virtue to form the moral code of conscience.
